Evie and Dan ★★★★★
“I don’t know where to begin to state how amazing Mel is as a celebrant. From our very first meeting Mel was so easy to talk to and gave such a feeling of familiarity and serenity…”
Familiarity and serenity. Well, that’s rather lovely.
I think there is something important about feeling comfortable with the person who is going to stand at the front of your wedding and tell your story. We might be strangers when we first meet, but we are going to spend quite a bit of time together.
You should be able to ask questions, change your mind, share your worries and occasionally say, “I’m probably overthinking this, but…”
Spoiler: you are allowed to overthink it. We can talk it through.
“Mel visited us at multiple occasions to our house to chat over details for our day and for us to perfect the script that Mel wrote. Nothing was ever too much trouble and Mel was always easy to contact with any questions or worries we had…”
One of the things I loved about working with Evie and Dan was that we had time.
Time to chat. Time to go through the ceremony. Time to make sure the words felt right. Time for the inevitable little questions that pop into your head once you’ve had a chance to think about everything.
Creating a ceremony isn’t a case of me disappearing into a writing cave, emerging weeks later and saying, “Ta da! Here you are!”
Well, not usually anyway.
It is something we create together, and I want you to feel able to ask, question, suggest and tweak as we go.
“On the day Mel settled our nerves and provided the most amazing ceremony for us. So many people came up to us afterwards to say what a truly beautiful, unique and personal ceremony it was…”
And then comes the bit where we actually have to do it.
You can have planned everything beautifully, know exactly what is going to happen and still find yourself standing there thinking, “Oh. Right. This is actually happening now.”
Nerves are completely normal. My job isn’t to pretend they don’t exist. Sometimes it’s simply about being a familiar face, having a quiet word, giving you a moment and then helping you step into the ceremony you’ve spent all this time creating.
And hearing that their guests recognised it as personal to them is, as ever, the absolute cherry on top.
“I cannot put into words how amazing Mel is at what she does. She is one of the kindest, warmest people I have had the pleasure of meeting and our wedding was perfect with her as our celebrant. Thank you Mel”
Evie and Dan, thank you.
I absolutely loved getting to know you both, spending time in your home and gradually bringing your ceremony together.
Thank you for trusting me with your words, your questions and your wedding day.
And thank you for these incredibly kind words. They mean more than you probably know.
Warmest wishes, Mel
